Technology:

BlackSheep boards are made from ultra-lightweight virgin EPS (1.5 lb) and incorporate the top-of-the-range ‘Triax-NCF ’ (Non-Crimp Fabric) carbon fibre – the most advanced on the market – to create a fast, responsive and dynamic surfboard. A board that is both lightweight and flexible, yet surprisingly durable.

The ‘Triax’ carbon fibre is laminated only on the deck, with a light overlay on the underside, and sandwiched between several layers of 4 oz ‘D-size’ fibreglass, on both the top and bottom, to combine durability and performance.

Designed to offer rapid responsiveness whilst maintaining forgiving flex and an overall cushioned feel underfoot.

The combination of Triax carbon and fibreglass gives BlackSheep boards a lively and exhilarating character, whilst remaining familiar.

The unique performance of BlackSheep boards stems from the Triax carbon, which features a three-axis structure of +30/-30°/0. This is a ‘non-corrugated’ multidirectional carbon fibre, which enhances and controls torsional strength from rail to rail. Multiaxial carbon fibre is an excellent alternative to traditional woven carbon fibres, as it consists of alternating, aligned layers of unidirectional carbon reinforcements.

As they are not woven, the fibres do not ‘curl’ beneath and above the perpendicular fibres, unlike traditional fabrics. The fibres are flatter, retain less resin, remain smoother, straighter and stronger, with a more natural flex.

Unlike traditional fabrics, there is also no carbon orientated at 90° from one stringer to the other, which creates weak points and promotes the development of cracks, warping and breakage at the deck.

Thanks to the fabric’s +30/-30° orientation, the torsional force and pressure exerted by the surfer’s feet are distributed outwards across a greater portion of the rail line, providing better propulsion, a better connection and, consequently, better control over the edges and perimeter of the board.  Strength and stability underfoot and along the rails are seamlessly integrated.
