The Slater Designs Mindcraft Ultra surfboard takes the minimalist concept developed by Kelly Slater and shaper Daniel Tomo Thomson a step further. Designed as the step-up and mid-length variant of the original model, this Ultra version offers increased length and volume to deliver ultra-efficient paddling and superb control across a wider range of conditions, from small waves to more powerful sessions. It retains its innovative outline and carefully crafted hull to generate smooth speed, whilst ensuring precise tracking and exceptional drive. An ideal choice for intermediate to advanced surfers looking to maximise their glide without sacrificing manoeuvrability, brought to you by your Waïmea Surf Shop team in Anglet.
A step-up/mid-length version of the Mindcraft, taking the connection between the surfer and their board even further in more powerful waves.
Introducing the Mindcraft Ultra by Daniel Thomson, in collaboration with Kelly Slater – a step-up or mid-length version of the Mindcraft that takes the connection between the surfer and their board to new heights in bigger waves. The Mindcraft Ultra represents the pinnacle of board design when it comes to carving fluid, high-performance lines in powerful, energetic waves.
The design features an elongated parallel outline offering pure high-speed glide and an astonishing ease in executing smooth turns on the rail, whilst maintaining a genuine sense of performance, thanks to Tomo’s Full Length Spiral Vee hull. With a ‘torpedo’ nose similar to that of the Mindcraft shortboard, this profile is designed to be forgiving in the most critical moments. It’s an aesthetic which, according to Tomo and Kelly, offers superior performance for surfing outside of competition (‘outside of the jersey’). A bump wing round tail completes the balance and symmetry of the design, allowing for tight turns at high speed with exceptional control. All these design choices offer remarkable control and effortless rail grip, particularly at high speed in powerful waves.
Recommended in a quad rig for optimal performance; this is, in fact, the configuration used by Tomo and Kelly.
WAVE TYPE
Like many of Tomo’s models, the Mindcraft Ultra excels in powerful waves, but can also be ridden in smaller conditions in the mid-length version. The board’s range of use depends on its size, with larger sizes offering greater versatility and adaptability. Recommended for waves of 2 to 6 feet (approximately 60 cm to 1.80 m), as long as there is power and energy in the water.
FIND OUT MORE ABOUT THE SHAPE
Recommended for use in a quad configuration, Kelly usually uses either his set of Slater Designs Endorfins KSR rake fins or the Slater Designs Endorfins KS1 model on this shape.
The Mindcraft Ultra can be ridden as a step-up or a midlength, and its size can be chosen accordingly. The larger sizes offer a wider range of use and generous volume, combined with high-performance rails that will work very well if you’re looking for extra buoyancy
